Iām continually blessed by the wisdom of other mamas; and since the Good always seeks to be shared, I want to pass that wisdom on to you. May it minister to your heart as much as it has ministered to mine.
I’m getting ready to spend next week with over 100 mamas who have dedicated themselves to homeschooling.
And among them will be a small group that holds a very special place in my heart.
These women are strong beyond strong. Every day they face the challenges of raising children with special needs, often with little to no support ā and even less understanding ā from those around them.
I almost missed knowing these amazing women, simply because I didn’t think our family’s challenges “counted”.
But these mothers didn’t require my children to have fancy diagnoses.
They didn’t look for a certain number of weekly doctor and therapy appointments.
They didn’t test my knowledge of military-style acronyms: ASD, OT, PT, FASD, DS, NOS, ST, NT, SN, CAPD, or VT.
They simply saw their own challenges mirrored in our family’s story.
They showed us there was hope, and then walked us through, step-by-step, sharing things they had learned along the same path.
Many of these women deal with far greater challenges than I will ever face, but we don’t weigh crosses.
We simply help each other bear them.
To all my SC friends: thank you will never be enough.
